We Heard You, @13Alliemarie

You speak, we listen.

Ranch at Super Chix

Whether or not to have a signature Ranch on the menu was something the Super Chix team went back and forth on for a few weeks prior to opening. Ultimately, we made the decision to focus on developing our four favorite sauces and use a standard Ranch packet instead. Oops.

To say we underestimated the love for Ranch in this town is an understatement. So with that in mind, we embarked on developing a KILLER Signature Ranch.  It was no easy feat.

Our problem with using a standard off-the-shelf Ranch is that the variations are sometimes made with funky ingredients in order to be stored at room temperature. Standard, off-the-shelf Ranch is also a little too “Plain Jane” for our liking.  So, we— along with our chef— created and tested over 50 different possible Ranch recipes.

After our extensive Ranch research, we ultimately decided on a Cucumber Dill Ranch.  We just refer to it as “Ranch” because it’s easier to order… but it’s much more special than that.  Like all of our signature sauces, it is free from all ingredients that might show up on the “Whole Foods Unapproved Ingredient List”.  So now, when my 2-year-old son dips his entire hand in our Ranch and smears it all over his face… at least I am comfortable with the ingredients. And they pair pretty well with our tenders and sandwiches too.

As always… we’re eager for your feedback.  Be sure to swing by and try our new Ranch for yourself!

Some Things We’ve Learned Since Our Opening

We’ve been open for 57 days, and it has been an awesome ride, filled with challenges, excitement, and lots of chicken. In our quest to make our food the best it can be, we’ve been listening to your feedback. Here are some of the things we’ve learned:

1. As a new concept, we must clearly define who and what we are. Not in comparative terms, but in original terms that set the tone for others—both staff and guests alike.

We have spent the last few months talking with customers and explaining in detail what makes us special. Since we are a restaurant, and we sell chicken, comparisons are natural. But what it really boils down to is very simple:

We use better ingredients

We cook to order

Yes, it takes a bit longer. Yes, it’s more expensive. But we think the results are worth it.

2. Fresh cut fries… so simple, yet so complicated.

We believe our fresh cut fries are awesome. However we have learned there is a big difference between making 10 servings in our test kitchen and hundreds of orders back-to-back. Words like soggy, cold, over-seasoned and under-seasoned have become our nemesis. The fifth night we were open, three of us were hauling our brand new fry holding cabinet out to the back- where it was promptly stolen. We say good riddance.

Our fresh cut fries are now 100% cooked to order. Recently we switched dine-in orders to be served on trays. We found that fries sitting in the brown paper bag would steam and had a tendency to get a little soft. We are also in the process of switching our packaging, take out bags, and seasoning process. In fact, we have recreated our entire fry line in a warehouse kitchen in order to perfect it. Obsessive?

3. Our lines can get long.

When you come to Super Chix, you’re hungry (maybe even hangry). You don’t have much time. The first few weeks of opening were C-R-A-Z-Y. The perfect storm of new customers and a new menu, combined with a new team trying to perfect a first-ever process, made for long lines.

Good news…we are much faster. We’ve been working with our team to speed up our processes so you can get to the important stuff faster. Your food will still be made to order, but you’ll get to enjoy it sooner.

We want to give a big shout out and thank you to Arlington for such a warm welcome. You’ve taught us a lot over the past few months, and we are excited to keep bringing you what we love- amazing chicken.

Why You Should Start Eating Frozen Custard – Our Custard – Like, Immediately.

  1. First off, don’t be scared of the word “custard.” This isn’t flan or your grandma’s egg custard. It’s nothing like that. This is frozen custard, which is much more like ice cream. Actually, it’s what ice cream wishes it could be.
  2. And we bet you like ice cream already. Most Americans do—we spend close to $22 billion on it annually. Ice cream is really good and you can buy it almost anywhere—gas stations, grocery stores…street carts. Frozen custard, on the other hand, is mind-blowingly great and you can’t get it everywhere because it’s a-made-fresh-texture thing that has to be made by an expert. And you can’t just shove it in a freezer, it loses it’s magic.
  3. Frozen custard is superior because it has an ingredient ice cream doesn’t—egg yolk. Egg yolk gives frozen custard an even richer, creamier texture than ice cream. But custard has a very similar nutrition content to ice cream. So it only TASTES like it’s crazy worse for you. How’s that for a win-win?
  4. Frozen custard also has a slightly higher milk fat, which allows it to carry even more flavor molecules with it to your taste buds. That means if you make it with, say, the best Madagascar Bourbon and Indonesian Vanilla Beans ever created, you’d be able to taste that incredible vanilla combo even more than if it were added to ice cream, and with less added sugar.
  5. That same milk fat lets any other awesome flavors you add taste even better, too. Add some strawberry and it’s suddenly the best strawberry ever. Add chocolate and…so good you might punch yourself in the face.
  6. Now let’s talk concretes. When you mix frozen custard at high speed with your favorite ingredients, a concrete is born. You’ll know because when you turn the cup upside down, the contents and spoon won’t fall out. They’ll stay stuck in the cup. And just forget about that straw. It’s not gonna do anything for you. May as well throw that thing away. And believe us when we say, this is a good thing.

Meet the Last True Chicken Sandwich

We want to introduce you to what we here at Super Chix are all about:

  1. Super Chix was founded on a radical idea:  Keep It Simple.  You’ll taste our philosophy in everything we make.
  2. Let’s start with our chicken. It’s hand breaded, and marinated in-house – just like you’d make it if you opened a kickass chicken restaurant.
  3. To us, every detail matters. With three kinds of handmade, refrigerated pickles – sweet, hot and kosher – you are finally free to pick your pickle.
  4. We’ve taken the humble french fry and transformed it into the hand-cut pride of Idaho.  Good enough to stand alone, but even better next to The Last True Chicken Sandwich.
  5. Finally, when you’ve polished off every last bite, our world-renowned custard will be waiting for you. Our custard is what ice cream wishes it could be.

We can’t wait until you can get in here and taste what we’re talking about.  The Last True Chicken Sandwich is ready when you are.  What time will we see you?
